Karastan Rugs is actually a brand name, representing “Wonder Rugs” that have wowed visitors at World Fairs and other exciting events. These rugs are not hand-woven, but carry the same amount of class as traditionally woven rugs crafted around the world.
THE HISTORY OF KARASTAN RUGS-In 1928, an American Retailer and Textile Manufacturer named Marshall Field made history when he built a loom able to recreate the detailed craftsmanship and elegance of a hand-woven rug. It was just after two o’clock in the afternoon on April 8th when the first Karastan Rug came off the loom. Ever since then, the name “Karastan Rugs” has become synonymous with machine-made rugs that rival hand-woven competitors.
The process was so advanced that members of the media referred to Karastan Rugs as “Mystery Rugs.” Just before the 1933-34 World’s Fair in Chicago, Karastan created a large version of its famous Kirkman Pattern. Then, instead of placing it on display, the company allowed fair visitors to walk on it.
More than five million people left stains, food, and footprints on the rug. Karastan cleaned half of it, allowing the world to see how well the rug was able to recover. The rug still exists in the same state, half-unrecognizable and half-restored.
To prove the demonstration was accurate, Karastan repeated the process at the New York World’s Trade Fair of 1939-40. More than nine million people walked on the rug. Again, half was restored to its original condition. Since that moment, Karastan Rugs have been known as “The Wonder Rugs of America.”
Karastan Rugs are masterfully woven, blending traditional Oriental Carpet Designs with a variety of colors, styles, and patterns. Some of the most popular choices for Karastan Rug Size include area rugs and circle rugs, both of which are enjoyed in homes across the country and around the world.
These rugs have been made the same way for decades, on looms with worsted wool. This high-quality material improves both the strength and the durability of rugs. Still, Karastan Rug cleaning can be difficult without the right expertise.
